New Colorado gun laws set to take effect summer 2026

It's a pain and a sad statement on what has happened to the signature Western state since the Four Horsemen tribed together to flip it. But it could have been worse, like a ban which is what that snaggle-toothed bag of liver spots, Sullivan, and his socialist compatriots, really wanted. I have a hunter's safety card so the impact will be minimal if I want to buy an evil black rifle after the law takes effect- four hours of "training" vice 12, over two sessions, along with an eye-roll trip to the sheriffs office for a five year "mother may I..."permission slip.

Now...when Bennett is anointed Governor all bets are off....the Californication continues...you can keep your hunting rifle if you ask nicely...

I see a major Republican gathering is happening in Pueblo, looking at that as a possible future counterweight to Denver Boulder along with El Paso. I am not holding my breath for the ship to turn around soon, but I like the strategy, given how things in Denver are being "mismanaged..."

Appreciate you sharing the news about legislation. It seems to me that requiring permits through sheriffs and mandatory courses for semi-autos is a pretty significant infringement. What’s everyone’s take on these requirements?
I find it significant that a full-on evil black rifle (EBR) ban did not pass in the CO State House, like the one in 9 other states and that is sailing through the process in Virginia. Wherever the locusts gain a majority you can expect an EBR ban. My fear is that Polis, who is more focused on the "environment" and fiscal matters than guns, once he is gone, Bennett, the heir apparent, will laser focus on turning Colorado into a Western Mountain state version of California re: guns.

I don't, why ban something when you can generate revenue off of it? With CO 1.5 billion in the hole, they have to tax in the guise of fees where they can. Wait until all barrels have to ship to an FFL.

True but if economics ruled over ideology Colorado would not be $1.5 B in the hole in the first place, even with the TABOR speed bump in place.

Tom Sullivan is a hateful troll who would like to see every gun in the state melted into origami sculptures in front of the State House, is psychotically determined enough to push for it, and the only concern is, as he said at a rally recently, "they (gun owners) have to pay." The few million they're going to get from the 6.5% "sin tax" is a pittance and is earmarked so it can't be used to reduce the deficit.

I'll hold to the idea that Polis would not support a full-on ban at this time - he said as much - and the few cooler heads in the State House knew it was a waste of time. Wait until Governor Bennett is in place (get ready for the cry "why can't we show the same political courage as Virginia?"). He is a Colorado version of Chuck Schumer. FFLs for barrels is the least of our problems. Only hope is enough pissed-off gun owners combine with those incensed at the Denver criminal-level fiscal - not to mention illegals - mismanagement at sometime in the future, to flip at least one House.

I'm very familiar with Tom Sullivan, and his story. I'm just saying it's the typical progressive never let a crisis go to waste narrative. Polis and most of the progressives knew an outright ban wouldn't hold up in Fed district court, even CA hasn't fully banned AR-15s and other so called "AWs". Since they can't do exactly what they want, they'll tax us into oblivion in the guise of fees.

A corollary to what you say about progs and crisis is, they could care less about crime or preventing it - some crises are manufactured. In fact, the more the better. I offer as evidence that most politically deep-blue areas are also criminal havens. A disarmed population, cowed by crime, is dependent on government for its protection, a lather-rinse-repeat cycle until the Singham-Soros-WEF wet dream of complete subjugation can be realized.

I am hoping an AWB in the largest state proximate to the Capitol, provides impetus for SCOTUS conservatives to take up the issue, as Justice Kennedy implied earlier last year, was an inevitability. Even nominally liberal Kagan in an unrelated case, called "AK's and AR's arms in common use.."

My thoughts? Irrelevant at this point as I'm too old and unwell physically to matter. THAT said, "Outright civil war" against the liberal/left is my thought and has been all my life. Obviously that is illegal and no real solution which would destroy everything I hold dear in my life and my country... So I continue to support conservative pro-firearm political causes...

And also get rid of all the farmers and ranchers ,who work their back side off to help feed the country , so they can cover all of eastern Colorado up with them damned windmills and take the water that is out here and pipe it back to the front range.🤬🤬
