Before every match I do the same thing, it took me a while to realize it’s not superstition, just structure.
That routine keeps my head from wandering instead of thinking about a hundred different outcomes, I’m just going through steps I’ve already done a dozen times before I ever step to the line. When things get loud, that repetition is what keeps me steady. I’m not trying to figure anything out at the last second because that work is already done.
The match doesn’t start at the buzzer. It starts in the parking lot, in the prep, in every small decision you make before you ever load a magazine and the goal for me isn’t to control everything. It’s just to make sure nothing catches you off guard when it counts.
