People think you need a boat to catch anything worthwhile. I spent a morning surf fishing last fall with a medium-heavy spinning setup and a bucktail jig and pulled in more striper than I expected. Shore fishing is real fishing. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Shore fishing gets way too much hate, sometimes all you need is a rod, a jig and patience for a full cooler.

Fishing from the shore gets overlooked a lot, mostly because it doesn’t make for flashy Instagram posts. But some of my best striper nights were spent standing ankle-deep in the surf at 2 a.m., headlamp on, casting a needlefish plug.

Shore fishing really gets overlooked. Give me a bucktail and a good dose of patience and I bet I'll outfish half the boats out there. You don't actually need a big hull to get to the water, after all.
