I'm looking for a good public shooting range around Colorado Springs. Ideally, I’d love to find some rifle lanes that go beyond 100 yards. And if they have steel targets, that would be much better. Do you have any go-to spots that have solid facilities and friendly staff? I'd appreciate any suggestions!

You might want to check out spots like Dragonman's or Pikes Peak Gun Club. Dragonman's definitely has a wild vibe, but if you’re looking for some long-distance shooting and fun reactive targets, it’s perfect. On the other hand, Pikes Peak Gun Club is more organized and has some solid facilities. They offer longer rifle lanes and cool steel setups, depending on what event or bay they’re using.

I used to be a member of the Issac Walton range east of COS on hwy 94, basically south of Aztec motorcross track. I got tired of the jerks at Dragonman's, Dragonman included. I eventually made friends with a guy who had a home range in Falcon.

I moved away from the Springs shortly after the range on Fr Carson was built. My wife didn't have a good experience with the ROs there. She was a part of the Pikes Peak chapter of Well Armed Women. She had an NRA certifed instructor there running the group and was having a training class. The ROs basically harrassed the class treating them all like "little ladies".

There is also a private range, Frontier Gun Club with ranges in Falcon and Hanover. You'll need to apply and be a member of the NRA to join. I was on the waiting list for three years, but by then I was shooting at my buddies. There is a similar range near Canon City, I can't remember the name off the top of my head.

Frontier (colorado springs)is great. The Hanover range has a pit for full auto, targets that go boom, pistol ranges, shotgun range, 2 ranges at 100, 1 range at 300, and a 1000 yard range with steel targets every 100 yards. You can put your own up if you want or go paint. Falcon range is great too its just busier and you don't have as much freedom with time and people that need the range to go cold. I use both and like it. I recommend getting on the list. Sometimes you get lucky and you get in fairly quick. Some people have to wait.

I like the Park County Range up by Jefferson. You can google it, but it's an unmanned range with facilities for 50, 100, 200, 300, and 600 yds. It may be a little far for you, but hey, you can go fishing nearby when you are done shooting.
