I'm looking for a reliable budget scope under $300 that can hold zero while hunting elk. I need something durable with clear optics for low light conditions. What have you guys used and can recommend?
For entry level scopes like you mention, Vortex is hard to beat. Warranty is great but have heard very little from anyone having a problem. I have worked with se3veral dozen and have not had to return any. Can't say that for Leupold, Burris, or Weaver. When you want to move up, Swarovski glass is probably the best.

The Burris Fullfield E1 is also a great budget scope. I’ve got one that I just swapped from my 270 WSM to my Ruger Scout Rifle. (Took it off because I’m thinking about selling the rifle and want to keep the scope.)
They have a few good budget scopes and they’re local… based out of Greeley. Customer Service is top notch as well.
Scheels in Colorado Springs had the Vortex Rage 4-16x42 on sale I'm pretty certain less than 2 weeks ago for $199.99. It is made in the Philippines, and is a pretty dang nice optic at $200. They will honor the sale price for up to 2 weeks after the sale ends. Normal price is $320. I don't think you'll easily find a better bang for your buck. It also has side focus which is a plus in my opinion. But, if you want one, you should get on it quickly. Once the 2 weeks passes they won't lower the price.
