Do you have a Springfield Prodigy DS?

I don’t own one personally, but the Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy usually comes in 4.25″ or 5″ barrel versions, both in 9mm

I shot a friend’s Prodigy for a few range trips. It was a great shooter once it was broken in but it needed that time. I’d go 4.25 for carry balance, 5 felt better on range.

I ended up buying a Springfield Prodigy with the 5" barrel and no compensator. I have a few hundred rounds through it and it has run great.

The recoil spring is a 9 lb'r according to my recoil spring tester. I don't have a way to measure the mainspring but replaced it with 17 lb.

I have a Prodigy that I picked up used for a good price. It had had 2 previous owners. I think that the reason that they got rid of it was that when it was new, it had a terrible habit of not going into battery, at least once per magazine. I did a lot of research and figured out that the new cerakote finish was causing drag on the slide. I shot and cycled it for about 1000 cycles, using plenty of lube and the problem went away. I really enjoy shooting it now. I have the 5" non-compensated version. Very accurate.

That's great you noticed that. The one I bought was new, recent production, and the lock-up and unlock were 'sticky' to start. After a few hundred rounds it has really smoothed out.
