Was out deer hunting last year morning, all stoked about my shiny new "waterproof" boots that I'd just bought the week before. I know, I should've broken them in. That was mistake number one, and let me tell you, I was already regretting it by the time I reached my stand because I’d started to feel a blister coming on.

But the real fun started about an hour later. I stepped into what I thought was a little creek crossing but it was knee-deep! Those so-called "waterproof" boots filled up quicker than you can say frozen toes. I spent the entire day with my feet numb and squishing with every step. And wouldn’t you know it, this was the one morning when the deer were actually moving.

Every time I tried to shift position, I sounded like I was stomping through a swamp. It was a mess. Now, I've learned my lesson. I break in my boots weeks ahead of the season, and I make sure to test out that waterproofing in my backyard.
