I swapped to an ultra-light buffer trying to make my AR run softer. Instead it became over-gassed and unreliable. So I went back to standard and it ran perfectly again. Not every modification is an improvement, sometimes stock configurations are stock because they're optimized. That's a lesson to not fix what isn't broken...
 
Some modifications can break things. Like reducing the recoil spring on a semi-auto pistol too much. While doing so reduces the felt recoil, to a point, it can damage the frame and/or slide over time.

Yep, tuning a recoil spring is a balancing act...too light and the gun starts beating itself up. Physics always collects its bill.
 
Lightweight competition parts get a lot of support online but then people eventually figure out that duty reliability and tuning something for the range are completely different things. I learned that lesson the hard way, years ago, messing around with reduced power springs. The rifle felt softer right up until it just wouldn't cycle consistently anymore.
